High School Students….

Take 5 college prep academic courses during each semester in high school (this can also include college level work). Keep in mind college counselors look for challenging course work in quality and quantity when considering you for scholarships.

Take courses at the local community college. You can enroll directly with your local community college, but be aware you may need to take and pass the English and mathematics placement exams before taking most classes which have math or English pre-requisites.

Check with your high school counselor to see if your school offers a “Dual Enrollment” program. Dual Enrollment allows a student to take a community college course while satisfying high school requirements. These classes are usually offered at the high school, but can sometimes be offered at the community college (placement exams may also be required)

Middle School Students…..

If you are currently in middle school, students can enroll in pre-algebra, algebra I, or in some cases Geometry to fulfill some high school math requirements. However, only Algebra I and Geometry are considered college prep course work. Check with your counselors to see if these courses are offered.

Middle School students can also enroll in a foreign language to meet high school requirements and meet the college prep curriculum requirements (only if the classes meet the high school equivalency).
